Swim school timetable (50 weeks per year)
– We run swimming lessons for children from 3 years old through to swim fit every Monday to Friday from 16:00 – 18:00 and Saturdays from 8:00 – 10:30. On Saturday mornings, we have parent and toddler classes for two years and over.
Swimming stages
Jellyfish – parent toddler class for 2 year olds
Starfish – Parent toddler class for 2.5 year olds
Seahorses – Class for 3 year olds. Parents support children in the water while they become a little more independent
Stage 1 – For 4 years plus. Children are in the water by themselves with our teachers. Class sizes are a maximum of 8 children. They will be learning to float, push and glide, leg kick and obtain an effective streamlined body position with correct head alignment. We will develop your child’s confidence on their front and back.
Stage 2 – We build on the skills learned in stage 1. Children will continue to develop their leg kick skills while starting to incorporate arm movements. We will look at rotation in the water and continuing to develop confidence on their front and back.
Stage 3 – In this stage, children should be really starting to develop effective front crawl and backstroke. They should be able to swim confidently across the width of our teaching pool maintaining correct head position, streamlined body position and excellent leg kicks
Stage 3+ – This is the first taste in deep water for our children. They should be able to swim the width of the boom confidently to enter this stage on both their front and back. In this stage, children will learn effective breathing techniques and start to develop breaststroke and butterfly kicks. We will also begin to build their fitness as they start to become independent of the teacher.
Stage 4- Children are now in the water by themselves. They’ll swim in the boom, across the length. Their front crawl and backstroke should be technically good by the end of stage 4 to prepare them for swimming in the lanes. They’ll also begin to develop their breaststroke and butterfly stroke using both arms and legs.
Stage 5 – This stage is an introduction to lane swimming and our children are now building confidence over the 25 metre distance. We’ll develop technique across all 4 strokes while looking at a variety of rolls, rotations, and surface dives.
Stage 6 – Children are continuing to develop fitness in stage 6 and should be confident over 25 meters with front crawl and backstroke. Breaststroke and butterfly will continue to be developed alongside some personal survival skills and confidence.
Stage 7 – Children swimming in stage 7 will use front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. The butterfly technique is further developed in this stage and we’ll also build children’s stamina and fitness as they start to swim multiple lengths using a variety of swimming strokes.
Junior swim fit – These classes have a club feel to them as children work towards achieving bronze, silver and gold awards as well as distance badges.
Preschool info – In the daytime we run sessions for parents and toddlers. These classes are booked in blocks of 10 sessions as they run alongside the school terms. The sessions run for 3 terms during a school year.
Intensive swimming courses – Every school holiday (excluding Christmas) we run intensive swimming courses to get your children’s confidence higher and give them extra water time needed to really boost their swimming.
